Hair Loss Causes For Women

Today 1 in 4 women will suddenly start to notice that they are losing more hair than would be considered normal. Often there are several different reasons, which have resulted in them losing hair. Below we look at the two main types of hair loss women may suffer from. Certainly the more a person learns the more they understand about the hair loss in women causes.

1. Androgenetic Alopecia known as female pattern baldness, in men it is known as male pattern baldness. You will find that with men, they lose their hair completely and for women with this condition it will result in the hair covering their scalp becoming thinner.

With this particular form of hair loss the main factors which result in this condition occurring is that their hormones are not working correctly. Just as with men when high levels of the hormone DHT appear in their body this can partially be the cause of the woman's hair loss.

However, along with a woman's hormones playing a role in them suffering from this form of hair loss it may be something that they have inherited from their parent. So do not think that just because your father lost his hair that you will do so as well. It needs to be a gene that both your parents carry in order for you to suffer from this form of hair loss.

2. Telogen Effluvium is caused when a woman goes through some traumatic event in her life. In many cases, women who have a traumatic childbirth, have been malnourished, undergo any form of major surgery, suffer severe stress, or an infection can see that they start to lose their hair.

The only difference between this type of hair loss and that mentioned previously is that usually a woman will notice a difference about 6 weeks to 3 months after the event has occurred. For some women the condition may be so severe that they begin to lose clumps of hair from particular areas of the scalp, rather than a general thinning of hair over the scalp as a whole. Nevertheless, with the right diagnosis and treatment, this can be brought under control and in most cases, they may find the condition goes into remission.

Yet for some women the condition may be very severe and they will find that it becomes chronic and can be a problem they have to live with for a number of months or years to come. For many women before they can find a treatment for the condition they first need to understand what may be the trigger for it happening.

Above we looked at the two most common kinds of hair loss in women. Cause of the conditions of hair loss mentioned is varied and yours may be different from the ones mentioned above.
